Kolkata: All the current stars of Indian badminton have been guided and nurtured by him. From the likes of PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth to Saina Nehwal who once left, again joined him as the man himself is the guru and the path definer for all the upcoming shuttlers of the country. Pullela Gopichand, the badminton legend was present in the City of Joy for the trophy inauguration of ‘The Indian Sports Honours’, as he is head of the jury who would be deciding the winners of the awards.

Current Badminton sensation Kidambi Srikanth who has caught the eyes of everyone as he grabbed his fourth Super Series win in a season was also highly praised by his coach. The former all time great said, ” He has a brilliant combination of physical work with aggression. He is young and this is only the beginning as he has a lot to offer in the future”

Gopichand went on to praise Bengal badminton star Rituparna Das as he said, “She is currently behind Saina and Sindhu at the moment however she has some of the finest movements in the court. Within a few years, she would be perfect”.

“The Academy was started in April 2004. There are a lot of many many young talents all across the country and it is our duty to nurture them with care and provide them good coaching” said Gopichand when enquired about his Perfect system to become Champions.
When asked about the current performances of Saina Nehwal, Gopichand spoke “She has had a couple of good tournaments off lately. She has defeated Carolina Marin off lately. Saina has also taken Indian badminton to a higher level and in the upcoming times she would hopefully do well.”

Earlier it was Denmark and Indonesia who was dominating the world of badminton, however in recent times we have seen a change in tide as India have started dominating in the game. Gopichand added, “We have had some good results in the past but we will have continue this good form and there is a lot more left to achieve in the future.”
