FIFA U17 World Cup: Iraq register maiden win, rout Chile 3-0

Kolkata: Iraq registered their very first win in the FIFA U17 World Cup thanks to a Mohammed Dawood show who helped his side to snatch a convincing 3-0 win over Chile in their second group For game at the Salt Lake Stadium today.

Dawood scored a brace in the 6th and 68th minutes of the game to give his side a much needed win. They are currently holding the second spot with 4 points and are strong contenders to reach the pre-quarterfinal in their second U17 World Cup appearance.

On the other hand Chile who has lost their first two group stage matches are out of the composition with one match left against Chile.

England has already qualified with 6 points for the pre-quarters and will play the decider about who would top the group For against Iraq on October 14.

Mexico have one point at third place while Chile, having conceded six goals, are out of the tournament as the La Roja are yet to score a goal.

The scoreline would have matched England’s 4-0 thrashing of Chile but their goalkeeper Rodrigo Cancino denied Dawood a deserving hattirck from a penalty in the second-half stoppage time.

The Asian champions did not give their Latin American rivals any chance and enjoyed a XC per cent possession and it was Dawood who gave the lead with a right-footed shot from a difficult angle.

Dawood made it three goals from two matches, like that of David Sancho of England, when he curled in a freekick to the bottom right corner.

He almost struck a hattrick from the left side of the box but missed the target in the 74th minute as there was no stopping Iraq who became the Asian U-16 champions in Goa last year.
