Internet Desk: Brazil U-17 football team’s wonder kid Vinicius Junior will not come to India to take part forthcoming FIFA U17 World Cup, the Media Officer of the team confirmed a couple of days back.

“It is confirmed Vinicius Junior will not travel to India for the U-17 World Cup,” Gregório Fernandes confirmed.

“We had made all the protocol to have him, the player had the visa to India, we were expecting him for tomorrow morning, but today, Flamengo, after losing the Copa do Brasil final, decided to not allow him to travel.”

While speaking to the media after training on Friday, Flamengo manager Reinaldo Rueda told the reason for what they kept Vinicius at home.

“It was a situation analysed by the board, with the coaches and with Vinicius,” he said. “We want the best for him. He’s a conscientious, smart player, important for the national team.

“But he has not taken part in the weeks of preparation. He knows that he can come and help, but also wants to respect that.

“He knows that the national team has good players and he will stay with us. We hope the national team has success in the World Cup.”

The 17-year-old sensation from Brazilian club Flemingo was earlier set to land in India on Saturday.

The Brazilian forward has already signed a contract with Spanish football giant and current Champions League holders Real Madrid. Earlier, he also helped the U17 Brazilian national side to win the South American Championship where he scored seven goals for the side and was also adjudged as the player of the tournament for his brilliant performance.
