FIFA U17 World Cup: Find out what Collina did after reaching Kolkata

Kolkata: World famous former Italian referee Pierluigi Collina touched down today at the City of Joy at 4 o clock in the morning. Upon landing in Kolkata he immediately went to his hotel.

Kolkata has been made the head quarters for the referees. A total of 70 refrees have been recruited comprising of both male and female referees. The former referree great Collina would be conducting theoritical classes to these refs.

The referees would be dispaced from Kolkata itself to the venues one day before the game and then would return to Kokata once the match ends.

Collina would stay in Kolkata till October 6 after which he would fly to Delhi. Today however he conducted a theoritical class for the refs from 4PM till 6PM.

Referred to as the “best referee in the world” by David Beckham, Collina was in-charge of the 2002 World Cup finals in which Brazil defeated Germany 2-0 owing to a brilliant brace from Luis Ronaldo Lima.

This Italian ref has won the prestigious FIFA’s “Best Referee of the Year” six consecutive times. The member of the UEFA Referees Committee has also been the Head of Referees for the Football federation of Ukraine since 2010.
