In a repeat of last season, the Mariners had to be content with the Runners Up trophy in I League. So far trophy less, the Kolkata giants will desperately look to salvage some pride by winning the Fed Cup this season. On being asked whether he is feeling the pressure to win the first trophy for the club this season, a relaxed Bagan coach commented, “I do not have to prove anyone. Neither do I have to answer my critics. A club like Mohun Bagan  always play to win trophies. Everyone has to realise that you cannot win trophies every season. Even the best of clubs go trophy less in a season. The players are determined to give their best and win a trophy for the club, which will be a perfect return for the faith reposed on us by the club.” The Mariners are yet to win a trophy this season having finished at third in the Kolkata League and had to be content with the Runners Up trophy in I League. In spite of a brilliant start in the I League, the performance graph of the players dropped down. On being asked that his players are doing everything but winning trophies, a sarcastic Bagan coach said, “Perhaps you should ask this question to Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola” The Bagan gaffer should be reminded that Jose Mourinho has already won two trophies for Manchester United, winning the Community Shield and English Football League. Mohun Bagan will play their first match of the Federation Cup against DSK Shivajians on May 08. A squad of twenty players will leave for Cuttack tomorrow morning. The Mohun Bagan players will be staying in Bhuvneshwar while the tournament will be played at the Barabati stadium in Cuttack. On being asked whether it will be problem for the players, the gaffer said, “I  don’t thing there is much to complain about as the distance from our hotel to the stadium is not very far. We have stayed in cities where we had to travel for an hour to reach the venue.” The Mariners are placed in a comparatively tougher group with Bengaluru FC, DSK Shivajians and Shillong Lajong. Mohun Bagan will play Bengaluru FC on May 12. According to former players the match against the Blues will decide the topper of the group. Talking about the match against Bengaluru FC , Sanjay Sen commented, “We will take every match at a time. Few seasons back in Goa, we started off well against Bengaluru FC but failed to win. The important thing will be to start off the tournament with a win.” The Kolkata giants did win the Fed Cup last season after failing to win the I League. The supporters will be hoping for a repeat of last season. Coach Sanjay Sen though sounded cautious. “We did win the Federation Cup last season after failing to win the I League. That does not mean we will repeat the same feat this season. If we play to our potential we can come out with flying colours.”
