Rowling Borges named Emerging Player of the Year

Internet Desk: Jeje Lalpekhlua added another feather in his cap. The 25 year old India striker was on Wednesday declared the 2016 Player of the Year by All India Football Federation (AIFF). Rowllin Borges of Goa bagged the AIFF Emerging player of the Year. Pranjal Banerjee from Bengal has won the award for Best Referee of the Year. Joseph Tony was declared the best assistant referee for the year.

Sasmita Malik from Orissa won the Best Women Footballer of the Year. She will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh along with a trophy.

Sanju from Haryana won the the Best Emerging player of the year 2016. She will receive cash prize of rupees 75 thousand along with a trophy.

Regarded as the new football sensation of the country, Jeje was awarded for his consistent run in the domestic season with both Mohun Bagan and Chennaiyin FC. He has also performed well for the national team. He will receive cash prize of 2.5 lakhs along with a trophy.

The 25-year-old from Mizoram also won the Best Indian Footballer of the Year Award by Football Players Association of India (FPAI) earlier this year. Jeje, who made his international debut in 2012 has taken a huge stride in his career.

Jeje, incidentally, was the winner of the FPAI's Junior Indian Footballer of the Year award in 2011, AIFF Emerging Player of the Year award in 2013 and the 2015 Indian Super League Emerging Player of the League award while representing franchise outfit Chennayin FC, the eventual champions, on loan from Bagan.

An elated Jeje mentioned to www.the-aiff.com that he was “honoured” on being chosen as the ‘2016 AIFF Player of the Year.’

“This year has really gone great for me. This award is another motivation for me to reap more in the future,” he stated. East Bengal’s new signing Rowlin Borges won the Emerging Player of Year trophy. The 22 year old midfielder who plied his trade for NorthEast United in Hero Indian Super League (ISL) will also get a cash award of Rs 1 lakh. He was a part of Sporting Club de Goa for five consecutive seasons, where he played 58 games for Sporting and scored three goals for his side. He played 13 matches for NorthEast United in Hero ISL Season 3.

Pranjal Banerjee, regarded as the best referee of the country at the moment won the Best Referee award. He will get Rs1 lakh and a trophy for his performance.
