Exclusive: East Bengal CEO opens up about new signing after transfer ban getting uplifted

Suman Chakraborty:
The wait for the East Bengal fans are over. The All India Football Federation has made it clear that the ban is going to get uplifted and the club has to give a fine of Rs.7 lakh for that. Hence, www.xtratime.in spoke to Quess East Bengal CEO Mr Sanjit Sen about the process of signing their new foreigners. Here goes the conversation:

XT: The morning couldn’t get better for your club. Now, the question is, when will you be able to sign your player?

Sanjit: Well, I heard it’s from 1st December. But yes there is a confusion as there is a buzz that we might register players from now as well. I have to speak with the legal council to get the exact confirmation.

XT: Segovia, Dovale or Taylor? Who is the 6th foreigner?

Sanjit: Trust me, except Dovale, I didn’t speak to any of them. Dovale has a contract, so he is not available. Rest of the names and pictures I have seen on newspapers and social media and laughed at it, because I didn’t talk to them at all.

XT: When will the player get finalized then?

Sanjit: Well, before today morning, I was not even aware when the ban is about to get uplifted. So there was no point of talking to a foreign player when you don’t know when you are gonna ask him to sign. The process will now begin, I have to speak to the team management and shortlist the players. Then we shall move to sign the player.

XT: How much time will it take to register him?

Sanjit: Honestly telling you, I am not sure. Every country and continent has different issues regarding Visa. They get employment visa and it varies country to country. Unless we finalize the name of our target, it’s difficult to talk about it. The embassy too play large part in it.

XT: Will Amna and Kassim be retained or you have plans for their replacements?

Sanjit: No no… They will be there with the team. Right now our plan is to sign the 6th foreigner only. Our focus is there only.
