Kolkata: After winning against arch rivals East Bengal Mohun Bagan captain Sony Norde said “Good Bye” to his club for his knee injury and promised Mohun Bagan fans to come back in next season. Many supporters came with his mask to give him the respect for his service to the club.

Sony was very emotional to watch the fans as they were chanting “Sony, Sony” to their captain at the club lawn. Talking to the journalists he said,” As soon as I am fit, I promise you guys that I will be back. The love I have got makes Mohun Bagan unique among all the clubs I have played in. I didn’t want to go but for the sake of my family, my career, I have to,”

“A derby is always 50-50 but yesterday, Mohun Bagan played like Manchester City or FC Barcelona. We could have scored six or seven goals…. If they play like this, they won’t need me,” said Norde.

He stated his preparation for derby on 18 th Jnuary but felt pain in his knees and decided to consult his doctor in Argentina. “He told me that I needed surgery and a rehab for seven weeks. He also said he would help me with the rehab. “I couldn’t sleep that night and the next day, I couldn’t face my teammates because all this while they had thought I would be playing the derby.”

He said he will miss playing with Akram Moghrabi and Cameron Watson and he also supported former Mohun Bagan’s coach Sanjay Sen saying no one forced him to play against Neroca FC. “I did that on my own because I felt the team needed me. No one forced me to,” said the Haitian international.
