East Bengal completes the signing of star Brazilian forward

Kolkata: After completing the mega signing of former star Mohun Bagan footballer Katsumi Yusa, East Bengal today completed the signing of Brazilian forward Charles D’Souza for the forthcoming I-League Season. After roping in the captain of last year’s Mohun Bagan side, today’s signing would certainly be a huge success by the East Bengal officials.

Charles is the fifth foreigner who is signed by the Red & Gold Brigade for the forthcoming I-League. The Kolkata giant had already signed Mahmoud Al Amna, Willis Plaza, Carlyle Mitchell and Katsumi Yusa. Charles played for Chennai City FC last season in the I-League.

Earlier East Bengal had sent the contract paper to Charles through his agent, after watching the contract the Brazilian forward has singed for the side today. He will join the side in the month of October.

East Bengal official Debabrata Sarker today said,” We have signed Charles as our fifth foreigner for the I-League. He will join the squad during the month of September. The management will take the decision on sixth foreigner later.”

On the other hand, if the Durand Cup finally take place in Kolkata this season, East Bengal will play the tournament. Though the Red & Gold Brigade haven’t received any invitation to play in the Sikkim Gold Cup. If they receive an invitation the club will think about its participation.

On the flip side of it, East Bengal’s arch-rival Mohunbagan has confirmed their participation in Sikkim Gold Cup. According to  organizers Mohun Bagan will play on 11, 13 and 15 October. The other club from Kolkata are Aryan, Customs, Patha Chakra.
