Easily the best overseas win in his tenure as coach, says Ravi Shastri

XtraTime Web Desk: Indian cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri has been with the team for almost four years in two separate tenure. At first he was the Technical Director of the team and later he became the head coach of the team after Anil Kumble’s departure. After a remarkable win by 203 runs at Trent Bridge, Shastri termed this win as the best overseas win in his tenure.

“In the four years I have been with the team, as a clinical performance overseas, this win has to be the best. The Johannesburg win in South Africa was gutsy, on a nasty track. Here we stood out in all three departments,” said Shastri at the post-match press-conference.

Shastri looked really happy with the team’s performance in Nottingham.

We ran England close at Edgbaston. We were blown away at Lord’s. They were simply magnificent in all three departments here. As head coach, I can’t ask for more,” he told reporters.

Shastri explained what he had asked of the players following the innings defeat at Lord’s. “Very little practice, mental rest; clear your heads, show some accountability.”

India have the opportunity to become only the second team in cricket history to bounce back after losing the first two Tests. Don Bradman’s team won from 3-0 down before India. But Shastri, when asked about it, said: “I was not even born then! One match at a time, live in the present. It’s not over. We must forget this win, move to Southampton and start afresh. 2018!”

On being asked whether this is the best pace attack that India ever had, Shastri added,” By a mile, by a mile. No team comes even close.”
