Internet Desk: He had the chance to become India’s first goal scorer in the FIFA U17 World during the match against Colombia. He missed an open net in the proceedings. In the same match Jeakson Singh scored for the Blue colts to become the first Indian to score in any FIFA event. He is none other than future star of Indian football and Bengal’s very own Abhijit Sarkar.

The forward from Bengal faced a blow ahead of the AFC U19 Qualifiers as India U17 coach Luis Norton de Matos hasn’t picked him for this tournament. After knowing this Abhijit has returned to Kolkata today in the afternoon. Though this is not the end of the road for him . He will travel to Delhi again on November 16 to join the U17 squad which will play in this year’s I-League.

The Blue colts were out from the group stages of FIFA U17 World Cup. In three group league games Abhijit played in two matches for the home side.

Matos wants more physical footballers in the forthcoming U19 AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers, that might be the reason for Abhijit’s omission. Though the other two footballers from Bengal Rahim Ali and Jitendra Singh are a part of U19 squad which will play the AFC U19 Qualifiers.
