Image Source: Xtra Time[/caption] Kolkata: East Bengal secretary Kalyan Majumder has put an end to all the speculation circling around Do Dong’s future in the club. Mr Majumder has confirmed that the Korean footballer will be staying on with the club till the end of this season in the Annual General Meeting at the club tent on Saturday. There were reports that the Korean footballer may get the axe after the Kolkata League. It was also reported that Coach Trevor James Morgan has expressed his views to the club management that he was not willing to keep Dong in the squad for I League. Speaking to the scribes at the club tent after the AGM, Mr Majumder confirmed, “We have a contract with Do Dong for two years which ends after this season. So, where does the question arise about releasing him mid-way into the season?” But the fact is Dong did not perform well as was expected of him during Biswajit Bhattacharya’s tenure as coach during the I League last season. The below par performance of Dong prompted the club officials to think about releasing the Korean after the completion of Kolkata League. But with the club winning the Kolkata League for a record seventh time and Dong putting up a good show, the club officials now have changed their minds. Dong is now a part of the squad that is playing in the Bardoloi Trophy. The club is also planning to felicitate the footballers who were part of the seventh Kolkata League title. It was also discussed at the AGM to dedicate the Kolkata League title to late Amal Dutta. Another major decision that was taken at the AGM was the appointment of a Consultant cum CEO who will look into the affairs of the club in a professional way. With the I League all set to be merged with the Indian Super League, the club management is also taking a professional approach. The appointment of a Consultant is perhaps the first step towards that direction. There is an ambiguity whether or not the name of Kingfisher can precede the club name. On being asked the club is yet to win the I League which might well be the last edition this season, a visibly upset Kalyan Majumder said, “We have come very close to winning the I League on several occasions previously. But luck has not been on our side on all previous occasions. We can try to win the I League this season.” In the audited accounts placed at the Annual General Meeting, the club has made a profit of 3.25 lakh. Ever since the current regime has taken over in 2005, this is the first time that the club has seen a profit. The club had a deficit of Rs 1 crore when the current regime came into power after winning the elections.
