Dhoni questions use of ear pieces by umpires .

Internet Desk : India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni didn’t seem too happy at the post match press conference . He did express his displeasure with the use of some of the umpiring devices like ear-piece which he feels prevents the on-field official from hearing snicks and edges in a packed stadium.

Bangladeshi umpire SIS Saikat failed to detect a nick from Khurram Manzoor’s bat off Ashish Nehra’s bowling and the Indian captain wasn’t happy about it. Asked about umpiring, a sarcastic Dhoni said, “You don’t want me to get banned before World T20. You have all seen umpiring. It’s your call.”

“One thing certainly should be done. Umpires now use walkie talkies as well as wear ear piece in one ear which effectively means they are umpiring with one ear. It’s a difficult job. One needs to consider this. They are hearing with one ear. I believe there is no point having a ear piece when the bowler is bowling as you don’t need to use it then. It’s better to use both ears as a lot of things might happen on field,” the skipper said at the post match press conference.

Dhoni was in a mood to take dig at match officials as another innocuous question about his tips to bowlers caught on stump microphone was asked. “It’s very interesting you know. Match referees say that microphone is off when there is a situation of one guy from one team saying something to the other guy. But it is very strange that whenever I say something, they always catch it.

“Something may be very fishy from my side or match referee’s side! For example, okay this guy used a word that should not be used and we find mike is off but whatever I say, mike is always on,” Dhoni took a veiled dig at the match officials.

Dhoni lauded the effort of his bowlers, particularly youngsters like Pandya and Bumrah.

“Talking about the bowling, hitting the right length was important .It was a wicket where you have to hit the right length I don’t think it was a wicket where you could get away with bowling a full length . Just ahead of the three quarter length if you could hit the seam there was movement on offer .That’s what the communication was. I felt what was good for us was that we kept taking wickets because of which we put pressure on them . In this format you have to keep taking wickets. On a wicket like this you do not know what is a good score. When you go into bat, at times you think 140 would be a good score. Like for today’s game you were not sure what a good score would be like. I am glad that we were able to restrict them for 84, which made our job a little easier. The problem with these kinds of wickets is you can get a good delivery any point of time.”

On being asked to compare  whether Virat was the best player to have played under him, scoring runs invariably under pressure. “I do not believe in comparisons .There have been others who have performed as well. He has been very good for us as well as consistent. I think that’s the beauty of it that some individual comes forward and takes the responsibility. So far he has taken the responsibility with both hands”

Md Amir ran havoc at the start of the Indian innings taking three quick wickets. The Indian captain did praise him for the way he bowled.

“As I said, conditions were tough. You have to give credit to Amir, the way he bowled. The length was crucial for a left arm fast bowler. It becomes very tricky whether to come forward or stay back . You want to cover the swing then at the same time chances of leg before increases. He used the conditions very well especially in the first three over.

Talking about Yuvraj , Dhoni felt his knock was equally important along with Yuvraj ,“I think Yuvraj played a perfect knock considering the situation. There was no need to go after the bowling at that situation with three quick wickets falling. All that was required was to have a decent partnership. He applied himself perfectly with the situation, not taking any risk. The more time he spends at the wicket, the better it is for the team. It does not matter how many runs you score, staying at the wicket was important for him. Hopefully in the course of the tournament he will have opportunity to express himself.”
