XtraTime Web Desk: A historic day in in Indian athletics as Neeraj Chopra makes every Indian proud in his Javelin throw event.

Neeraj Chopra became the first Indian javelin thrower to claim a gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, with a season’s best effort of 86.47m in the final on Saturday. The 20-year-old junior world champion had made the final after achieving the qualifying mark in his very first throw yesterday.

Premier Indian Javelin Thrower Neeraj Chopra on Saturday delivered his season best performance to clinch gold in the javelin throw event of the Commonwealth Games 2018 here. Chopra delivered the season best of 86.47 to clinch the top podium spot. It was thus the 21st Gold medal for India in the marquee tournament.

Chopra stayed ahead of Hamish Peacock from Australia with a throw of 82.59 — who settled for silver and Anderson Peters from Gernada who had the output of 82.20.
