Team East Bengal can touch a 39-year old record if they beat Aryan tomorrow! . Courtsey : Xtra Time
Kolkata : The seventh successive league title has already created a new history for Kingfisher East Bengal when they won their last game against Mohammedan Sporting. Time to touch another glorious feat as the Red & Gold brigade will take on Aryan Club tomorrow to repeat the record, the champions achieved 39 years back, when they became champions by winning all the games in the league back in 1977. XtraTime.in had a chat with the legends of that historic triumph, before East Bengal takes on Aryan Club tomorrow.

Manoranjan Bhattacharya (Defender): We played against 20 teams in that historic triumph but the number of teams these days in the CFL has decreased significantly. But whatever the format, an all-win record is indeed an enviable one. I want to congratulate them for their 7th successive CFL title. But winning the league without the derby is a bit insipid, but you can’t do much when your arch rival refused to play the game.
Bhaskar Ganguly (Goalkeeper): Though East Bengal have clinched the title already, they have to tighten their defense as Aryan has always been a tough nut to break for the Red & Gold army. We have to be cautious. But becoming champion without beating Mohun Bagan is something we didn’t want but you can’t do anything when Mohun Bagan decided to give walkover. Best wishes to them.
Samaresh Chowdhury (Midfielder): I’m feeling glad that it is East Bengal only, to be in front of touching that historic feat. I would have felt bad if it had been touched by any other team. I’m the only player in the history to have won 8 consecutive Calcutta Football League titles- Once for Mohun Bagan and 7 times for my East Bengal. I want Mehtab to touch this record as well. Hope they’ll touch Aryantomorrow to repeat the 39 years old record. My best wishes are with them.
Surajit Sengupta (Winger): It is a fact that East Bengal is already crowned champions. Buttomorrow they should remember that they have to touch that historic feat. East Bengal always takes the field to win. Would have loved to have the derby victory among the all win record but you can’t help it.
Tomorrow’s game will be the first one for Abhijit Mondal as a full time coach, and the “fighter” is determined to take the challenge without the key players as Do Dong, Calum Angus, Rafique all have been suffering from injuries. The supporters will be keen to see the team to repeat the history, but the new gaffer said,”I have never got flooded in happiness when I achieved something in my life, not even in my playing career. Tomorrow won’t be an exception as well. The players are professional and they know their task pretty well. It is a fact that I will be missing a few players but the rest are good enough to carry the flag.”
Tomorrow’s game may not have a significance in terms of the league title, but the invisible chase of repeating the history created by the likes of Manoranjan Bhattacharya, Bhaskar Ganguly will be motivating the players to blossom against Aryan.
