Kolkata:
Mohun Bagan is now clear to win the coveted Calcutta Football League title after eight long years, as Quess East Bengal FC ends up losing the game in the mini Kolkata Derby, as Mohammedan Sporting comes from behind to snatch a sensational victory over the Red and Gold Brigade by 2-1 at the Salt Lake Stadium Today. Substitute foreigner Philip Adjah scores a late brace to knock the Black Panthers out of the title race.

It was Johnny Acosta who gave the lead to Quess East Bengal in the 12th minute of the game from a Fanai corner. Thew Costa Rican world cupper did exactly what the East Bengal forwards can’t do. He waited for the second ball and wslotted it home with a cool finish.

Mohammedan came perilously close to score in three or four opportunities but the Mohammedan forwards failed to find the back of the net due to poor finishing.

The Red and Gold brigade was leading till the 86th minute of the game, but then a sudden lapse in concentration from Mehtab Singh allowed substitute Philip Adjah to slot a fine goal to equalize into the game. The referee surprisingly continued the game till the 12’th minute of the added time and then another school-boy error from Samad Ali Mullick allowed Adjah to become a hero in this dramatic game.

The result helps Mohun Bagan to be in a position, where even if they lose the remaining games, they can still be the champions in better goal difference.
