Kolkata: Amidst some major controversy in the Mohun Bagan vs Peerless game, Sayed Rahim Nabi had to leave the ground under police protection. A major confusion rose in the field during the game when Mohun Bagan was awarded a penalty and as per claims Nabi was the mastermind to create such confusion. To prevent any harm to the player from the angry Bagan, the Police had to intervene to provide security to the player.

The controversial penalty was awarded in the 63rd minute of the game when Azharuddin was fouled and Kamo made no mistake to finish it at the back of the net from the spot.

As per claims from Peerless coach Fuja Tope, “The referee decided to award a free kick and then changed his mind to award Mohun Bagan a penalty”. However Mariner forward Kromah was of a different opinion when he said, “That is an exclusive decision of the referee and I am no one to comment on it.”

“First I will have a good look at the reply and then comment about it, as from the position where I stand it is impossible to comment” said Bagan coach Shankarlal Chakraborty.

A 2-1 victory over Peerless sees the Green and Maroon brigade going to the top of the table and thereby imbibing fresh spirit among the players before the much awaited Kolkata derby. Nikhil Kadam gave the Mariners a lead in the 33rd minute of the game when he came from behind the defenders to score after receiving a long ball from Reynar Fernandez.

However the lead was short lived as Peerless pulled back in the 39th minute when Dodos scored after receiving a grounder pass. The 63rd minute saw Azharuddin being fouled and Kamo won the game for the Mariners.
