CFL 2017: Mohun Bagan off to a flying start

Kolkata: Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan began their Calcutta Football League (CFL) on a high note as they comfortably defeated Southern Samity by 3-0 at the Mohun Bagan club ground.

Despite Mohun Bagan having a strong grasp in the game with more attacking intent, greater ball possession, the Mariners failed to score in the first half owing to a strong Southern defence.

However the second half of the game saw a much more aggressive Bagan side who netted 3 goals.

The deadlock was broken in the 52nd minute of the game when a corner from Ricky which was headed by Kingsley and stopped by the goal-keeper. However the goal landed in front of Kromah who netted the ball at the back of the net.

The game was stopped for 6 minutes when Southern goalie Bhaskar Bose was injured in the field and as a result was substituted by Sk. Maidul Islam.

69th minute saw Kromah taking a shot which was saved by the goalie. Kromah again took a shot on the returning ball which was again saved by the goalie, however this time Azharuddin put the ball at the back of the net.

In the 84th minute of the game, the final goal of the game was scored by Shilton d’Silva who scored from the middle of a crowd of players.

Southern foreigner Abu Bakhar was fouled in the box and a penalty was awarded to them which was put wide by Dipankar Roy.

A jubilant crowd who witnessed the game made Mexican waves in the club ground.
