CFL 2017: East Bengal finds new heart-throb, begins their campaign with an emphatic victory

Kolkata: Defending champions Kingfisher East Bengal begins their CFL 2017 with a thumping performance as the Red and Gold brigade destroys NBP Rainbow with a resounding 4-1 victory. The Red & Gold brigade got a new superhero for their new season as VP Suhair becomes the match-winner with a sublime hat-trick.

Khalid Jamil’s team played like a well-oiled machine as the two former Aizawl FC wingers Brendon and and Laldanmawia put the opposition on the back-foot right from the start of the game with their brilliant runs and crosses.

East Bengal got their first chance in the 2nd minute when Samad Ali Mullick’s long range effort went just wide. Willis Plaza too failed to find his goal-scoring boots despite getting so many opportunities.

Mamoud Al Amna though played a fine game and his deadly free kick almost went into the back of the net in the 17th minute.

East Bengal scored their first goal in the 19th minute, as Suhair hoodwinked the onrushing defender with a fine piece skill and that was followed by a superb volley to give huis team the all important lead.

Suhair scored his second goal in the 44th minute to make it 2-0 in their favour. Danmawia played a superb ball from the right and Suhair did the rest with a brilliant turn and a powerful shot.

Just after the half time, Suhair made it 3-0 to complete the hat-trick with another superb goal after the half time break.

Brendon made it 4-0 in the 28th minute of the second half with a gorgeous finish. The substitute Surabuddin Mullick too made a strong impression with a conducive performance.

Rainbow scored a consolation goal as Chotu scored the solitary goal for the newly promoted CFL team.

A minute of silence was witnessed before the start of the game in the remembrance of late Swapan Bal. But the performance of Khalid Jamil’s team has made it clear that they are ready for the bigger challenges.
