Brazilian Eduardo Ferreira signs for Mohun Bagan
Former Corinthians youth footballer played against Neymar

Kolkata: Mohun Bagan on Wednesday signed their fourth foreigner Eduardo Ferreira for the forthcoming I League. The Brazil born Equatoguinean defender arrived with his wife in the city today morning. Eduardo was seen in a green and maroon Gucci cap at the airport. On being asked about his favourite clolour, Eduardo an ardent Fluminense fan said, "I am a big fan of Fluminense whose colours are green and maroon as well."
The 33-year-old defender last turned out for Indian Super League side FC Pune City and joins the Mariners for remainder of the season.
With the signing of Eduardo, Mohun Bagan has completed its foreign quota for the I-League. Eduardo joins Sony Norde, Darryl Duffy and Katsumi Yusa .
An excited Eduardo later told the reporters at the IFA office after his registration, “I am excited to join Mohun Bagan one of oldest football clubs in Asia, it will be a good experience for me to play as the club has successfully won the I-League and Federation Cup in recent past. I look forward to contribute and win trophies with the Club.”
Eduardo, who hails from Rio is only the second Equatoguinean footballer after Raúl Fabiani to play in an Indian club. The 33 year old defender started his youth career in Fluminense. He then moved to another top Brazilian club Flamengo before moving to Corinthians. Since leaving Corinthians eight years back, he has plied his trade with 12 different clubs in countries like Colombia, South Africaand now India.
On being asked whether he played against any top Brazilian players, Eduardo claimed, “I have played against many top players in Brazil like Thiago Silva and Neymar. I played against Neymar when he was in Santos. I was with Corinthians at that time.”
A huge fan of Thiago Silva, Eduardo added, “I like both David Luis and Thiago Silva. But I am a big fan of Thiago Silva because he is very hard working and his temperament is very good. I like his style of play.”
Eduardo was suggested to come to India to play for FC Pune City in ISL by Antonio Habas. The former Atletico de Kolkata coach suggested him to come and play in India.
“He (Habas) has been trying to get me to play in India for the last three years. He suggested me that India is a nice place and the football here is growing. So I did not waste any opportunity to come to India.”
The Brazilian also had a word with Atletico de Kolkata’s South African footballer Sameehg Doutie. “I speak to Sameehg Doutie before coming to India to play in ISL. He also told me that India is a nice place.
On being asked whether he is fit to play the first match in the I League, Eduardo said, “I am fit and was under training in Brazil. It is for the coach to decide whether he will play me or not.”
Eduardo made his international debut for Equatorial Guinea against Spain in November 2013.
