Kolkata : Unlike yesterday at the club ground , East Bengal’s new foreign recruit Bernard Mendy was played as an attacking medio today by coach Biswajit Bhattacharya  in the practice session at Barasat.  The Red and Gold coach Biswajit Bhattarcharjee did try several options with Mendy but today it was different today . Mendy was thoroughly used as an attacking midfielder with Mehtab Hussain which seems that he is likely to be used  in that role in the next important I-league fixture against Aizawl FC in Barasat Stadium on 5th February, 2016. As it was evident during the practice session yesterday that Dong was playing in the reserve team in the practice match at the club ground similarly today there was no change in the tactics by Biswajit. So now the question arises, is East Bengal supporter’s heartthrob Do-dong-hyun is being gradually sidelined by the coach Biswajit Bhattarcharjee or is it a wake-up call for the Korean after his string of poor performances  in the I-league till now?

Today Mendy was electric in the midfield passing a lot of balls to Ranti and he was clever enough to convert those into goals. Ranti too was looking confident enough in the forward line with the inclusion of Mendy. Ranti was later seen speaking with Mendy after the practice session and had a long chat with him discussing the tactics. Ranti also quoted saying that Mendy’s inclusion will not only help the defense but also the midfield and forward line as he is an utility player and his experience will help the young Indian players and he can act as a mentor towards the team. Mendy too was quoted saying that he is fit and happy. He is adjusting gradually with the teammates and conditions. Till now he is happy and facing no problems. Later, coach Biswajit Bhattacharjee quoted that he is happy with Mendy’s fitness after watching him closely for two practice sessions. It is important now that how he gets accustomed with the conditions and features in the forthcoming matches . On the other hand, AIFF  informed through a press release that East Bengal’s 7th round I-league clash against Shillong Lajong FC on 9thFebruary is set to be postponed to 10th February.
