Internet Desk: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have finally agreed to send the Indian team in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. After a long term tussle between BCCI and the parent body of world cricket ICC, the Indian Cricket board on Sunday said Virat Kohli and co will take part in the tournament to defend their title. At the end of Special General Meeting (SGM) which was held at New Delhi today, BCCI said the team will be announced on Monday. Earlier the board didn’t announce the squad on April 25 which was the deadline given by ICC to  declare the team. India will lock horns with arch rival Pakistan, Sri Lanka and South Africa in pool B.

BCCI, in their press release, said, “The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Special General Meeting was held on Sunday, May 7, in New Delhi. The Board unanimously authorized the acting Hony. Secretary of the BCCI to continue negotiations with the ICC in the best interest of the BCCI while keeping its legal options open. The BCCI SGM unanimously decided that the Indian cricket team will participate in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. The All-India Senior Selection Meeting will be held tomorrow, May 8, in New Delhi to pick the team.”

It was decided that no legal recourse will be taken against the ICC as dictated by the Committee of Administrators (COA).

The team for the event, starting June 1, will be selected in the next 48 hours.

“It was a unanimous decision that the Indian team will be participating in the Champions Trophy. We will not take any legal recourse in the matter. Mr Amitabh Chaudhary and CEO Rahul Johri will negotiate with ICC,” a senior office-bearer told PTI.

Former president N Srinivasan attended the SGM via Skype but refrained from speaking about a pull-out after gauging the general mood.

“Yes, Mr Srinivasan is attending the meeting via Skype from London. As per FAQs, there is no clarity if he is disqualified or not. The Supreme Court passed a judgement that he won’t be allowed to attend the ICC meeting but it was never clarified whether he is ineligible to attend the SGM,” a senior BCCI official told PTI on Sunday.

The tournament will start on June 1, as hosts England will lock horns Bangladesh. India, however, will play their first game on June 4 against arch-rivals Pakistan at Edgbaston.
