Batting group failed to live up to expectations, says Rahane

XtraTime Web Desk: India has already lost the ongoing test series against England as the hosts taken an unassailable lead by 3-1 with the final test to start at the Oval from tomorrow. Ahead of that Indian cricket team vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane took the responsibility of the series loss as a batsman because he feels that the bowlers bowled very well throughout the series but as batting group they failed to support them despite of being an experienced group.

“We feel bad as our bowlers bowled so well and we as batting group could not support them when we are a experienced group. I think we as batting group failed short. When you are on tour you work so had and prepare so well and then one department performs well then it is responsibility of other group to back them,” said Rahane while talking to the media at the pre-match press conference.

Rahane lauded skipper Virat Kohli’s batting on English soil. Kohli is the highest run getter in the ongoing test series among both the teams. Many have raised questions whether Virat would deliver in this test series but he proved everyone wrong. As per Rahane they are learning a lot from the skipper.

“Talking about Virat’s batting , the way he conducted himself, consistency he showed was amazing. Many people were saying many things about him about whether he will be able to score runs in England. But Virat concentrated on his cricket and that is what we learn from him. As a team mate and as a captain we learned a lot from him,” added Rahane.

As per Rahane the visitors didn’t do much wrong in the first four test matches but England played better and that’s the reason behind the series win of the hosts.

“I feel we played good cricket but England played better than us. In Test cricket you have to give more than 100 per cent each session and England won more sessions. Especially their bowling unit, they bowled really well,” said Rahane.
