BCB also in talks with Jonty Rhodes as fielding coach

The former India left arm spinner is all set to be appointed on the advice of India coach Anil Kumble. Confirming the news former Bangladesh captain and currently the Director of Cricket Operations of BCB, Mr Akram Khan said, “We are likely to complete all the formalities in a couple of days before the test match gets over. Actually it was Anil Kumble, who referred Sunil Joshi’s name to us to coach our young spinners.” Joshi will take over his new role before the series against Sri Lanka which follows immediately after the test match against India. Bangladesh is scheduled to travel to Sri Lanka to play two test matches and 5 ODI’s. Joshi, who earlier coached Oman during the T20 World Cup in India last year, has been roped in as the spin bowling consultant.The 46-year-old Joshi has previously coached Ranji teams like Assam, Hyderabad and Jammu and Kashmir, will take charge of Bangladesh spinners after the tour of India.. Joshi was part of the Indian team which played against Bangladesh in their first test match in 2000. Joshi was the top scorer for India as he scored 92 runs to help India post a massive 429 runs. The hosts were humbled for only 91 runs in the second innings to give India a comfortable victory in the end. Joshi, who played 15 Tests and 69 One Day Internationals, achieved one of the biggest upsets in Ranji Trophy history when Jammu and Kashmir, under his guidance, stunned Mumbai. Bangladesh Cricket Board is also in talks with former South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes to be their fielding coach. Rhodes, who is associated with Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians as a fielding coach will take over the role shortly. The South African will occasionally visit Bangladesh to guide the Bangla cricketers with their fielding skill.
