Xtra Time Web Desk: ATK Mohun Bagan’s star defender Sandesh Jhingan is all set to follow the footsteps of Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri. The Indian defender is likely to join Croatian first tier club HNK Šibenik. It is learnt that Sandesh already has had advanced talks with the Croatian club and will travel to Croatia to sign the relevant papers.

The news about Sandesh having talks with the Croatian club was shared on twitter by journalist Adriano Savalli. He tweeted, “Sandesh jhingan , one step away from pursuing his career at HNK Šibenik . The defender goes free from ATK Mohun Bagan to make history and play in the Croatian First Division. There is already an agreement and the idea is that I travel in the next few days."

Sandesh has a five-year contract with ATK Mohun Bagan but there is a condition in the contract which allows him to sever ties with the club to explore opportunity to play in Europe. ATK Mohun Bagan will have to let Sandesh go if he gets a chance to play in any club in Europe. The 26-year-old defender also tried to play for various clubs in Europe last season. However, it did not happen.

Sandesh was not seen training with the Mariners in Kolkata as the club is preparing for the AFC Cup matches. If Sandesh move to another club, Mohun Bagan will have to find options to fill up his place. They have already roped in Finland’s Joni Kauko who recently played for his country in EURO 2020. The Green & Maroon brigade has also signed Hugo Boumous from Mumbai City.

Talking about HNK Šibenik, the club was promoted in the first tier league in Croatia in 2019-20 seasons. They are current placed 6th in the table. The club was the runners up of Croatia Cup in 2019-20 seasons.
