Kolkata: Mohun Bagan coach Sanjoy Sen will be missing in the dug-out against Mumbai FC due to suspension. This is nothing new as earlier he was unable to accompany the players in the reserve bench due to illness. During that time Mohun Bagan assistant coach Sankarlal Chakraborty had to look into the proceedings. On Saturday, after practice Mohun Bagan assistant coach Sankarlal Chakraborty and Mumbai FC coach Khalid Jamil attended the joint pre-match press conference at the Mohun Bagan club tent. Sankarlal quoted as saying, “Although our coach is suspended from sitting in the dugout but there is no harm in taking his advice. We are planning according to our coach’s strategy.”
Earlier, in the first leg at Cooperage Mumbai FC held on to Mohun Bagan with a goalless draw. As Cooperage was a small ground, Mumbai FC utilized the home advantage while Barasat Stadium is also of the same structure as Cooperage.
But assistant coach Sankarlal feels that to be the champions you have to overcome all these difficulties. He added, “ Mumbai FC have brought in some new players to strengthen their side. In Mumbai, Mumbai FC players and coach sledged the Mariners which is quite obvious they will do the same here. I have asked my players not fall into the trap.”
Mohun Bagan’s T&T World cupper Cornell Glen quoted as saying, “ The U-22 quota is a stupid rule. It is not helping to bring up new players. Whoever plays in the senior team, is categorized as senior players.”
Mohun Bagan’s Haitian superstar Sony Norde quoted as saying, “ Before leaving to play his country, I want to gift Mohun Bagan fans a win.”
Mumbai FC is also having some injury concerns with Min-Chol-Son out with a injury, Taisuke and Ashutosh Mehta uncertain for the match. Arata Izumi is also uncertain. Naoba Singh and Clifford Miranda did not travel to Kolkata and Nabi has taken a 10 days leave due to personal reasons. Eric Brown and Ryuki Kozawa will start in the upfront.
Khalid Jamil quoted as saying, “ Mohun Bagan are a good side with Glen and Katsumi leading the attack. It is true we have injury concerns but we will fight till the end.”
