Xtra Time Web Desk: Team India’s star batter Shreyas Iyer’s persistent back spasm is not a good sign. The injury forced Shreyas to sit out of the second Super 4 game against Sri Lanka on Tuesday at the R Premadasa stadium. Iyer is currently under remote observation by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) staff and the team management based in Colombo.

Shreyas was not at the R Premadasa stadium with the Indian team according to the release shared by the BCCI. The cricketer from Mumbai aggravated his back issue during the warm-up session on the first day of the squad's two-day match against Pakistan. Captain Rohit Sharma disclosed that the problem was identified during warm-up, leading to Iyer's exclusion from the match.

In place of Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul was selected for the playing XI against Pakistan, and he received praise from Rohit Sharma for his performance. Despite the last-minute decision, Rahul's remarkable performance showcased his strong mindset.

While Shreyas Iyer is expected to recover for the final Super 4 game against Bangladesh on September 15. If he does not recover in time for the Bangladesh game, that will definitely bound to raise concern for the Indian team management ahead of the World Cup 2023, scheduled to be held in India from October 5.
