Kolkata: Bengaluru FC head coach Ashley Westwood, who had questioned Sanjoy Sen’s ‘history as a coach’ after the Blues’ recent encounter against defending I-League champions Mohun Bagan, has apologized to the former United SC  and Mohammedan Sporting Club coach about his remarks.

After the match Sen had claimed that Bengaluru FC players conceded the goals in ‘excitement’ which Westwood responded as, “I am not concerned what he says because I do not value his opinion. He doesn’t have a history as a good coach. So why should I listen to what Sanjoy Sen says?”

However, the 39-year old has called up the former Mohammedan Sporting coach and has apologized personally over the phone. “I have called up Sanjoy and personally apologized to him over the phone on Monday and like a true gentleman he was very humble and accepted the apology and I believe we can move on and have a good race for the League title as competitors and friends.” Ashley further added.

Meanwhile, Mohun Bagan finance secretary Debasis Dutta later quoted as saying,” Even if Ashley would not have apologized we would not have complained against him. FIFA has delivered the rule of appointing foreign coaches and signing foreign players to develop the country’s football. If a coach of Westwood’s standard broke the FIFA obligations then it’s very unfortunate.”

On the other hand, Debasis Dutta had a mini meeting with the coach and players ahead of the I-league match against Shillong Lajong FC. It seems that the meeting was payment related as the players and coaches are still left with their dues.  So Is there a possibility of a player’s revolt against the club officials ?only time will say.

Meanwhile, on 25th February Mohun Bagan will inaugurate their flood light and play their IFA shield U-19 fixture against Liverpool-DSK Academy at  their club ground under lights instead of Barasat Stadium.
