Internet Desk: Legendary Jamaican sprint king and the fastest man on earth, Usain “Lightning” Bolt is helping the Australian Cricket team to improve their running between the wickets ahead of the Ashes. The first Test between Australia and England is set to start from November 23 at the Gabba in Brisbane.
The Aussie cricketers joined Bolt in a practice session, who also loves to play cricket, showed quick techniques to them for running between the wickets.
“It’s all about explosiveness, and that’s one thing I’ve noticed with cricket – they don’t really have a lot of explosiveness when they’re running,” Bolt said, according to the Herald Sun newspaper.
“They seem to always take off at a slow rate. Getting that right will definitely help people.”
Australia’s star middle-order batsman Peter Handscomb opened up on the tips that they received from Bolt and said that it will help them to perform well against England.
“He was giving us a few pointers on how to get a little bit faster,” Australia’s middle-order batsman Peter Handscomb said of his session with the speedster.
“We’ll give it a crack. He was trying to get us nice and low in the turn and in and out. The first couple of steps are key and if we can get them right, we’ll be fast,” stated about the tips Bolt doled out to the team.
He further explained that he wants to highlight the importance of running in relation to cricket.
“Obviously he’s the fastest man ever so if we can have the title with him, that’d be cool,” Handscomb added.
Bolt is an eight-time Olympic champion and world record holder in the 100 and 200 meters, who has been touting a post-track career in soccer since retired after the World Championship in London.
“It’s (soccer) something that I want to do. I’m trying to get fit now,” he said. “My doctor finally passed me after my hamstring problems at the world championships, so now I can start training.
“I’ve started training while I’m here and trying to get into shape before I get home and next year I’ll get a trial and we’ll take it from there.”
Bolt is currently touring Australia to promote the ‘Gatorade Fastest Run’ trophy.
“We’re developing the Bolt Rate which is the quickest person through the wicket. I’m happy about that, because we’re going to see who is the fastest between the wickets,” Bolt said.
