Kolkata: Mohun Bagan to miss the service of their Brazilian central defender Eduardo Ferreira in the all important AFC Cup 2017 play-off away leg against Sri Lankan champions Colombo FC on the 1st February. The Brazilian centre back was taken off the field after a dangerous collision with the DSK Shivajians midfielder Juan Quero on Tuesday at Pune.

The defender was stretchered off with anxiety as he was in a lot of pain while taken off. Today, the defender was taken to the doctor and he was addressed to take rest for a few days. The Mariners’ coach Sanjoy Sen said, “Eduardo was taken to the doctor and the injury is not that serious. He was advised to take rest.”

The Bagan gaffer had also made it clear that the Brazilian is not travelling with the team for away game against Colombo FC. He said, “We are not including him in the squad for the away game. I never involve any player to play for us if he is injured. Eduardo will be here in India.”

The Green and Maroon brigade stumbled in their last I-League game after winning four successive games in the league. The unavailability of the foreign defender would certainly extend the woes in the Bagan camp. But Sanjoy seemed very calm even in such a scenario. He said, “I have enough Indian defenders to play in his place. There is Kinshuk, Bikramjit, Raju. Anas has also recovered from his injury. So, I don’t think it would be a big concern for us.”
