2018 FIFA WC: A day of suprise and upsets, Germany and Brazil in trouble

XtraTime Web Desk: A day of upsets, surprises and more importantly the arrival of the European superpowers in FIFA World Cup football.

Starting the day with a stunning left-footed free kick from Kolarov saw Serbia to make a winning start to their campsign in Russia against Costa Rica. On the flip side, Mexico came up with the biggest surprise as they handed Russia the biggest upset by beating defending champion Germany by a brilliant goal from the counter-attack by Hirving Lozano.

The drama continued till the last match of the tournament as well. Brazil, the favourites to win the title made a stumbling start as they ended up their first match with a 1-1 scoreline with a highly talented and “strategic” Switzerland side. The spectacular early goal by Philippe Coutinho was cancelled out early in the second half by Zuber, for the Swiss to level the scoreline.
