1983 World Cup winner Yashpal Sharma has died of a massive heart attack on Tuesday.

Xtra Time Web Desk: 1983 World Cup winning former India cricket Yashpal Sharma has died of a massive cardiac arrest on Tuesday morning. He was 66 years old. He is survived by his wife Renu Sharma, two daughters Puja, Preeti and son Chirag Sharma.

Yashpal Sharma had a glittering career, spanning over the late 70's and the 80's. Yashpal Sharma was born in Ludhiana on August 11, 1954. He made his test debut against England in 1979. In his 37 test matches he scored 1606 runs with two hundreds (HS .140) and nine half centuries at an average of 33. He made his ODI debut earlier in 1978 against Pakistan while amassing 883 runs at an average of 28.48. 

In his Ranji Trophy career, Yashpal Sharma represented three teams including Haryana and Railways. He played 160 first class matches scoring 8, 933 runs that included 21 centuries with a highest score 201*.

Post-retirement he was involved in various roles with the BCCI, Punjab and Haryana cricket, and also served as cricket expert.
