Regarded as the best goalkeeper in 50’s and 60’s Pradyut Burman was suffering from multi-organ failure. He was aged 81 years old. He died at SSKM hospital at 4:40 pm. He is survived by his wife, son and daughter. Pradyut Burman played a key role in India winning the 1962 Asian Games. He did not play the final though as he was surprisingly replaced by Peter Thangaraj. He was also part of the 1964 Asia Cup and 1965 Mardeka Cup. He played for Mohun Bagan for four years from 1964-67. He was part of the Railways team that won the Kolkata League in 1958. He also won Santosh Trophy for both Bengal and Railways. His body will be taken to Gostho Paul Statue in the maidan for football lovers to pay their last respect. Later the body will be taken to his residence at Salt Lake. The family members of late Pradyut Burman cried foul after his death. They felt he was not given the due respect by Mohun Bagan and Eastern Railway, for whom he played in his career. They also alleged that the Indian Football Association (IFA) did nothing for him. According to his Pranab Burman, “My father never got his due respect. People of his age do not want money, and my father never begged in front of anyone throughout his life. We are disappointed and shocked with the attitude of Mohun Bagan and Eastern Railway, for whom my father played. No one from these two clubs were present at the hospital, neither did anyone enquired about his health. East Bengal club sent a club flag and a bouquet as a mark of respect towards my late father.” He also added, “We will remain grateful to the State Sports Minister Arup Biswas and Laxmi Ratan Shukla for the help they extended in the last few days. Ex footballers like Chuni Goswami and  Sukumar Samajpati visited my father while he was admitted.”
