XtraTime Web Desk: India is currently playing the third match of the five-match Test series against England at Nottingham. A lot will be depending on skipper Virat Kohli as it’s a must win game for the Men in Blue. We all know that he is the back bone of the Indian batting. If we can remember, today is the day when Kohli made his debut for the national team 10 years back on August 18, 2018 against Sri Lanka in Dambulla. In his first match he scored only 12 runs before getting out. Though the start was not good but with time he has evolved himself after leading the India U19 to win the ICC U19 World Cup for the second time in 2008. Kohli took 10 more innings after his debut to score maiden ton and the rest is history. Kohli is currently the nation’s most trusted batsman in all three formats of the game and beside that he is a very aggressive captain and is still a work in progress. In the ODIs he has been breaking all the records with an ease. Kohli has 35 ODI centuries under his belt and he is only behind legendary Sachin Tendulkar who has 49 tons. Back in 2013 he scored a ton in just 52 balls which is fastest by any Indian in the ODI format. Beside that he is the cricketer who has fastest 8,000 and 9,000 runs in ODI cricket. Till now he played 211 ODIs where he scored 9779 runs with an average of 58.20. He has hit 35 tons and 48 fifties as well. At the age of just 29, he is known as the chase-master. He has hit 19 centuries while chasing a successful total in the ODIs. Earlier this year, he scored 558 runs against South Africa in a six-match ODI series – the first to across 500 runs in a bilateral series and the most by any batsman. In 68 Tests, he has 5794 runs with 22 centuries and 17 half-centuries. In T20Is, he has hit 2102 runs in 62 matches with 18 fifties. In all, he has amassed 17675 runs, 57 centuries and 83 half-centuries in his 10-year career and is already considered a legend of the game. He is currently the only batsman in the world who has an average of over 50 in all three formats of the game. As Kohli is only 29 years of age, he has a lot to give to the nation.
